Alright! Let’s Talk About Makeup…Everything About Makeup!
Ok, almost everything. My name is Esther Ashiakie Momo Mensah, I am a professional makeup artist and beautician, and I am totally in love with the art of makeup… It’s my full time job, it’s what I wake up for! I say ‘art of makeup’ because that is exactly what it is. Makeup is art, it’s everything you want it to be and it frames you without completely defining who you are. Ideally makeup is meant to enhance our natural God given beauty, not necessarily to transform us into a whole new people. I believe that as individuals we should be strong and confident with or without makeup on, but sadly this isn’t always the case. Acne and other skin issues can edge away at your confidence, but making a bit of effort towards conditioning your skin can bring you closer to that flawless look, and closer to full confidence!
You can get that flawless skin in three easy steps 1. Cleanse 2. Tone and 3. Moisturize, and this doesn’t have to cost you a fortune.
Cleanse your face daily with a mild soap or the more natural way using the oil cleansing method. Tone with an alcohol free toner and then moisturize, a lot and religiously. Moisturizing with the right creams and lotions (mild ones, and stay away from bleaching creams), not only promotes soft healthy skin but also helps control oily skin. Do these basics twice a day (morning and evening) and watch your skin transform and generate its own healthy glow.
I am a big fan of natural remedies – lemon, honey and purified water for example can work wonders for your skin. These remedies are quick, cheap and simple to prepare, easy to apply and there’s plenty information available online – a little Googling is all it takes.
The everyday woman doesn’t need to do too much to put her best face forward. Primer, foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, blush, lipstick, liner, mascara and voila, you’re ready to take on the world! Ok that may sound like a lot, but I promise it gets easier with practice, it’s a lot of fun, and using the right tools will most certainly help in achieving that effortlessly flawless look.
Your eyebrows have the power to set the shape and structure of your face .Attaining the perfect brow in terms of shape, color and the right ‘arch’ is quite the struggle these days for some. It’s best to keep things simple and as close to natural as you can be: Sculpt your brows according to your natural brow shape using shades and tones of brown, NEVER BLACK OR WINE OR VOILET. Highlight those bad boys with a lighter shade of concealer; brush through with a spoonley for a more natural look. Set the finished look with a setting fix spray for an all-day wear and glow.
Like I said earlier, makeup is art and makeup is you, never be afraid to experiment with different colors and shades (eyeshadow and lipstick) and new techniques. Just be sure you look far from clownish, lol, because unfortunately that’s easy to see these days.
No matter how tired you are, never sleep with your makeup on. Make that final effort, take 5 minutes to cleanse, tone and moisturize, and your face will be very grateful. Sleeping with your makeup on clogs your pores, causing breakouts and premature aging, which you ideally want to avoid.
I never leave home without my face powder, lipstick, fix spray and a mint (comes in handy, always). Have fun, be you and remember you are never fully dressed without a smile.
